The Altoona Arthritis & Osteoporosis Center ("AAOC") and the affiliated Altoona Center for Clinical Research ("ACCR") provide leading edge health care through the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from Rheumatological and related disorders.

From two locations, the physicians and staff diagnose and treat patients suffering from arthritis and related disabling disorders of the joints, muscles and bones.

About the Meningitis Outbreak

The physicians and staff, at The Altoona Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center and The Altoona Center for Clinical Research, have NOT purchased any drugs from the New England Compounding Center located in Framingham, MA.

Patient safety is our first priority at The Altoona Arthritis and Osteoporosis Center and The Altoona Center for Clinical Research, and the services that we provide continue to be SAFE. We are closely monitoring the investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at http://www.cdc.gov/HAI/outbreaks/meningitis.html

Fungal meningitis is not transmitted from person to person. The cases that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating are potentially contaminated medication. The investigation continues, however, interim data shows that all infected patients received injection with a preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate (80mg/ml) prepared by New England Compounding Center, Framingham, MA.
